Announcing the publication of a new Centennial Book from CEM :  As one of its contributions to the University of the Philippines Los Baños Centennial celebration in 2009, the College of Economics and Management published a compilation of papers by current and former faculty members of the Department of Economics on the general theme of economic development with particular focus on natural resources, environment, and education.

Development, natural resources, and the environment
One of the liveliest subjects before the people of developing countries has been development, natural resources, and the environment. The subject is not new to economists, but important new elements have appeared quite recently, particularly in the Philippines and in other developing countries.

This volume is a compilation of recent studies by current and former faculty members of the Department of Economics, College of Economics and Management at the University of the Philippines at Los Banos on the general theme of economic development with particular focus on natural resources, environment, and education. It reviews the relevant issues and addresses challenges that have profound effect on the lives of ordinary Filipinos.

The College of Economics and Management is publishing a series of articles under the heading “Concepts and Principles Behind Economic Issues.”  Concepts and Principles is a two-page publication of UPLB CEM which defines and explains, in simple and easy-to-understand terms, basic concepts and principles. The objective is to enlighten the public and other interested parties on the concepts and principles behind certain economic issues, with particular emphasis on agricultural, natural resource, environmental, agribusiness, and rural development issues.

The first entry is an article entitled "Labor Productivity vs. Total Factor Productivity."  Click here to download the article.

CALL FOR PAPERS:

One idea raised in the recently concluded CEM brainstorming session is the launch of a web-based CEM Working Paper Series. The primary objective of the series is to provide a venue for soliciting comments and suggestions for our on-going and recently concluded research. In addition, it is envisioned as a means to promote our research capabilities to people in and outside of the college.

To jumpstart the activity, our plan is to release forthcoming chapters from the Centennial Book writing projects of the three departments of CEM. However, we would also like to solicit recent research output which you deem worthy of releasing to the general public.

If you wish to participate in this activity, kindly send an MS Word version of your paper to Prime Rodriguez at uprime@gmail.com.
